Umamaheswari Umasankar

I’m Umamaheswari Umasankar a neuroscience graduate from the University of Helsinki, currently in Marseille for a research project on the blood-brain barrier and neuro-inflammation. I am also the Vice-chair for The Science Basement. With a long-standing passion for science writing, I draw inspiration from crime-thriller novels to craft compelling narratives around complex scientific concepts. Outside of my research, I’m a trained Indian classical dancer and singer, and a language enthusiast fluent in six languages. And when I’m not in the lab, you’ll find me with a cup of South Indian filter coffee, headphones on, getting lost in podcasts or Spotify playlists by the beach—my perfect escape!
