Nature vs. nurture has been an interesting debate when it comes to combatting the obesity pandemic. In a modern environment that largely promotes overeating, inactivity, and sleeplessness, how much does our weight actually rely on our genes? We are looking into this by comparing sets of twins who are genetically identical, grew up together, but, unusually, had large differences in weight: healthy weight vs. obesity. By investigating their lifestyle habits, we might uncover behaviors that are changeable regardless of influences from DNA or childhood upbringing in order to support obesity prevention and weight loss.
