Together with our bright young minds, we tried to build bridges with spaghetti and straws and test their stability. An external expert came to instruct the kids on the basic concepts of civil engineering, such as construction stability, balance, and the importance of load distribution. The kids were very engaged and managed to build very resilient bridges, quite difficult to break!
During another session, we tried to dig more into the topic: kids were challenged to build the tallest free-standing structure using jelly candies and toothpicks, starting from building block suggestions. This is a common activity to motivate thinking as engineers, and develop important skills like planning, communication, and especially cooperation in a team!
Seeing the kids grasp new fundamental concepts, collaborate on creative challenges, and tackle problem-solving with such excitement truly underscores the power of science divulgation and hands-on learning. We believe that sparking interest and fostering a love for STEM at a young age can open doors to a world of possibilities. Designed to ignite imagination and empower the next generation of innovators!
